According to media reports, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on December 9 that it has concluded a preliminary evaluation into an issue affecting 7,745 Fisker Ocean SUVs, which were reported to be unable to shift into the park gear. Earlier, the electric vehicle startup issued a recall notice and introduced a related software update.

Earlier this year, NHTSA launched a preliminary investigation into the 2023 Fisker Ocean electric SUV after approximately 4,000 vehicle owners reported unexpected vehicle movement. Complaints indicated that affected vehicles could not shift into park mode or the intended gear, potentially leading to unintended movement.
Last month, NHTSA stated that Fisker would recall 7,745 vehicles as unintended rolling could increase the risk of a crash or injury.
On December 9, NHTSA confirmed that the company would address the issue through a software upgrade, "OS 2.0," which introduces an "Auto Vehicle Hold" feature. This feature prevents vehicles from rolling due to gravity, thereby assisting with engaging the park gear and activating the electronic parking brake.
In August, NHTSA announced the closure of two separate investigations into Fisker Ocean SUVs related to door malfunctions and reduced braking performance. In April, NHTSA began a preliminary evaluation of 6,781 Fisker vehicles manufactured in 2023 after complaints were filed stating that passengers were unable to open the doors using either interior or exterior door handles. Fisker recalled some Ocean vehicles in June to address the door issue.
NHTSA noted in a statement that Fisker's recall remedies included inspecting all four doors and replacing the outer door handles if any defects were found.
In January, NHTSA initiated another separate investigation into 7,745 Ocean models following complaints about partial regenerative braking failure on low-traction surfaces without warning the driver. According to NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI), the issue resulted in six minor collisions and one reported injury due to braking failures.
