Cadillac's New Entry-Level Electric Vehicle Optiq Priced At $54,000

According to media reports, General Motors announced on May 29 that the starting price for its new entry-level electric vehicle, the 2025 Cadillac Optiq, is set at $54,000. This price does not include the U.S. electric vehicle purchase incentives, such as the federal tax credit of up to $7,500.

Following the $59,000 Lyriq midsize crossover, the custom sedan Celestiq priced at over $300,000, and the upcoming $130,000 Escalade IQ SUV, this compact crossover will be launched later this year and produced at the Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico, making it Cadillac's fourth electric vehicle.

Cadillac Vice President John Roth stated at the press conference, "Cadillac has always been one of the representative brands of American luxury cars, and Optiq is the latest example of technological innovation leading the company into the future of electric vehicles."

The Optiq will be sold in 10 regions, including North America, China, and Europe, and will make its debut at Cadillac's new showroom in Paris on May 29.

As electric vehicle sales have fallen short of expectations, automakers are attempting to increase the appeal of electric vehicles with more affordable models.

In 2017, General Motors sold the German car brand Opel, the British car brand Vauxhall, and related assets in Europe to the former PSA Group (Peugeot-Citroën, now part of Stellantis). Now, the Optiq provides GM with an opportunity to re-enter the European market. Additionally, the Optiq might help GM regain its foothold in China, where GM's sales and profits have significantly declined in recent years.

The design of the Optiq is similar to Cadillac's current electric vehicles, featuring sleek vertical and horizontal light designs and a black grille. Inside, Cadillac electric vehicles are equipped with a 33-inch diagonal LED display that integrates GM's latest "Super Cruise" driving assistance system, providing users with a smarter and more convenient driving experience.

The Optiq offers both luxury and sport trim options to meet the different needs and preferences of consumers. The vehicle is equipped with an 85 kWh battery pack, using a standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive propulsion system that can deliver a maximum power of about 300 horsepower. Additionally, it has 354 pound-feet of torque, which means the vehicle can generate strong power at low speeds, making acceleration quicker and driving more flexible.

The estimated range of the Optiq on a single charge is 300 miles (about 483 kilometers). General Motors stated that using a DC fast charger, the Optiq can add about 79 miles (about 127 kilometers) of range in about 10 minutes.
