Volkswagen's German Factory Halts Production Due To IT Failure

According to Reuters, the Volkswagen Group stated that on September 27th, a significant IT malfunction caused production work for the Volkswagen brand in Germany to come to a standstill. The entire group, including brands like Porsche and Audi, were affected.

Volkswagen indicated that a "network component IT malfunction" occurred at its global headquarters in Wolfsburg, though they did not specify the exact cause. This disruption also affected factories in Emden, Osnabrück, Hanover, Dresden, and Zwickau as well as component factories in Brunswick, Kassel, Chemnitz, and Salzgitter.

The Volkswagen Group mentioned that the malfunction appeared around 12:30 PM and is currently under analysis, having a consequential impact on automotive production plants. "Based on current assessments, it seems unlikely that the system failure was due to an external attack," the company added. They emphasized that the immediate priority is to resolve the issue, which is currently progressing well.

Due to low demand for electric vehicles, the production work at the Volkswagen Group's Zwickau electric car factory has already been affected, potentially altering the long-standing three-shift production system. On September 26th, a spokesperson for Volkswagen mentioned that the Zwickau and Dresden factories will halt the production of the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born electric models during the first two weeks of October.
