Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Trump stated that upon his election, the U.S. would significantly increase oil production to reduce energy costs.
Regarding the automotive industry, he declared, "On my first day in office, I will terminate the electric vehicle directive." He claimed that this action would save the American auto industry, which he believes is heading towards complete destruction, and save thousands of dollars per vehicle for American consumers.

Trump emphasized that the core of his "Trump Economics" is tax cuts and higher tariffs. He promised to use taxes and tariffs to restore job opportunities in the U.S. automotive industry. Trump also pledged to eliminate consumption taxes and reduce overall taxes in the United States. "The way they (automakers) sell their product in the United States is to make them in the United States. It's very simple - make them in America, make them here," Trump said. "This very simple formula will create a lot of jobs, and we will take over the auto industry again."
Based on Trump's previous statements, it appears that his main aim is to win more votes from workers in the automotive sector. On March 16, local time, he also stated that if he returns to the White House, he would impose a 100% tariff on Chinese companies producing cars in Mexico. According to the video of the speech, Trump later added that he "welcomes" Chinese automakers to build factories in the United States, under the condition that they must hire American workers.
