Potential Tire Blowout: Honda Recalls 176,410 Civics in The U.S.

Recently, Honda announced a recall of 176,410 Civic vehicles in the United States. The reason for the recall is a manufacturing defect in the steering rack of these vehicles, which might cause the front wheel turning angle to exceed the preset angle, leading to damage to the suspension system and tires.

Honda first identified this issue in July and launched an investigation into the manufacturing defect in September. The investigation revealed that there was a deviation in the assembly stroke length of the steering rack. As a result, the front wheel's turning angle could potentially surpass the preset value, causing the tires to collide with the suspension, leading to tire blowouts and suspension damage. All vehicles with this safety risk will be recalled for inspection, and some will have their electric power steering racks replaced.

The Honda Civic is positioned as a compact sedan. As a global model, the Civic can be seen in countries like Japan, the U.S., Australia, and multiple European countries. Furthermore, its high-performance version, the Civic TYPE R, enjoys worldwide acclaim as a "hot hatch," once holding the title for the "Fastest Front-Wheel Drive Car at Nürburgring."
