Recently, based on prior media reports, Mitsubishi Motors had decided to cease production in the Chinese market. The company had allegedly begun final exit discussions with GAC Group, its domestic partner in China. However, the head of Mitsubishi's public relations department, Inoue Tetsuji, clarified that this news wasn't officially released by the company, stating, "We are still in dialogue with our shareholders, and no decision has been made."
The related media report suggested that against the backdrop of the proliferation of electric vehicles in China and the rising prominence of local car manufacturing brands, Mitsubishi Motors saw a decline in sales, leading the company to halt its Chinese production. The joint venture factory between GAC and Mitsubishi, GAC Mitsubishi Motors, located in Changsha, is the only facility in China where Mitsubishi produces new cars. Affected by the sluggish sales, the factory suspended production in March of this year.
