Hyundai To Recall 54,647 Vehicles in The US

According to media reports, Hyundai Motor Company will recall 54,647 vehicles in the United States due to a fuel pump defect that may lead to a loss of power. Additionally, the company will recall 7,579 vehicles in Canada for the same reason.

The models involved in this recall include the 2019-2023 Genesis G70, the 2019-2022 Veloster N, the 2022-2023 Elantra N, and the 2022-2023 Kona N. To date, Hyundai has not received any reports of injuries or fatalities related to this issue.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the fuel control valve plunger in these vehicles may experience premature wear, causing fuel to leak into the fuel pump. If the air-fuel ratio becomes too large, the vehicle may lose driving power at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners can take their vehicles to authorized Hyundai or Genesis dealerships for an engine control module software revision, which may include replacing the high-pressure fuel pump.

In a statement, Hyundai said: "To ensure customer safety, Hyundai Motor North America and Genesis Motor North America have initiated Recall Campaign 262/023G to address issues with high-pressure fuel pump components in certain Hyundai and Genesis vehicles manufactured and sold in the United States and Canada."

Additionally, Hyundai will recall 12,349 units of the 2024 Santa Fe in the United States. According to an NHTSA report, "A software error in the transmission control unit may cause the vehicle to roll away when in a stationary position." The NHTSA stated that dealers will update the transmission control unit software, and owners are expected to receive mail notifications by September 9.
