On June 20th, former chairman of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, announced that he has filed a lawsuit with the Lebanese prosecutor's office, accusing 12 individuals from Nissan and two other companies of defamation, fabricating evidence, and other crimes, and demanding compensation of over $1 billion.
Ghosn stated, "If found guilty, Nissan must face the consequences. At the same time, Nissan should discuss and reflect on why such a thing happened with its shareholders."
According to Reuters, on June 20th, former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn stated that he has filed a lawsuit with the Lebanese prosecutor's office, accusing 12 individuals from Nissan and two other companies of defamation, fabricating evidence, and other crimes, and demanding compensation of over $1 billion.
Ghosn also said, "I will face a long battle in the future, and I will fight to the end."
Looking back, in 2018, Ghosn was arrested in Japan on charges of concealing personal compensation and other financial misconduct. Since then, the events have had many twists and turns. In 2019, Ghosn "escaped" from Japan and on December 31, 2019, issued a statement through his American spokesperson, saying, "I am now in Lebanon and I am no longer under the predictable guilt of the Japanese biased judicial system."
To this day, Ghosn remains in Lebanon and has been committed to clearing his name. He believes that his arrest was a conspiracy by Nissan executives who were vehemently opposing the merger between Nissan and Renault, of which Ghosn was a driving force.
Regarding the claim of over $1 billion in damages, Ghosn stated, "If found guilty, Nissan must face the consequences. At the same time, Nissan should discuss and reflect on why such a thing happened with its shareholders."
When asked if he would expand the scope of legal action to include Renault, Ghosn replied, "I do not exclude anything that may happen in the future, but the current focus will be on Nissan."
