According to media reports, DENSO Corporation and semiconductor manufacturer ROHM have announced that the two companies have agreed to explore a strategic partnership in the semiconductor sector.
As electric vehicles (EVs) continue to develop and proliferate in pursuit of carbon neutrality, the demand for electronic components and semiconductors required for vehicle electrification is rapidly increasing. Moreover, semiconductors are becoming increasingly important for supporting vehicle intelligence, such as autonomous driving and connectivity, which are expected to contribute to the reduction of fatalities in traffic accidents and are essential for achieving a sustainable society.

DENSO and ROHM have previously collaborated through the trade and development of automotive application semiconductors. Moving forward, the two companies will consider deepening this partnership to ensure a stable supply of highly reliable products and to develop high-quality, efficient semiconductors that contribute to a sustainable society. To further solidify their partnership, DENSO will acquire a portion of ROHM's shares.
Shinnosuke Hayashi, President and CEO of DENSO, stated: "DENSO positions semiconductors as key components in realizing next-generation automotive systems, and we are deepening our collaboration with semiconductor manufacturers who have extensive experience and knowledge. ROHM offers a broad range of semiconductor products essential for automotive electronics, including analog semiconductors, power devices, and discrete semiconductors, and they have extensive mass production experience. We believe that by integrating the automotive technology and expertise we have cultivated over the years, we will be able to ensure a stable supply and accelerate technological development."
Isao Matsumoto, President of ROHM, commented: "ROHM and global tier-one manufacturer DENSO have been deepening their collaboration for many years. Recently, both parties have been working on joint development in analog semiconductors. We believe that the collaboration with DENSO, as well as DENSO's acquisition of shares, will further strengthen the relationship between our companies. Achieving carbon neutrality requires technical cooperation at the device level, with a focus on end products and systems. We are confident that by deepening our integration with DENSO, which has advanced system-building capabilities in the automotive and industrial equipment sectors, we can contribute to a sustainable society."
