BMW Munich Plant To Achieve Full Electrification By 2027

On the 27th, BMW Group announced at a press conference held at its Munich plant in Germany that the facility will be fully transformed into a pure electric vehicle (EV) production base by 2027. The plant is currently accelerating preparations for the production of the "Neue Klasse" EV models, which are scheduled to enter mass production in the summer of 2026.

BMW Group expects global demand for pure electric vehicles to grow significantly before 2030. In response, the Munich plant will take the lead in transitioning to full electrification and increasing EV production capacity. The facility is currently constructing three new production workshops, covering body manufacturing, final assembly, and related logistics, to ensure the smooth launch of the "Neue Klasse" models.

"The production of 'Neue Klasse' models will drive the Munich plant to become a highly flexible, innovative, and efficient modern manufacturing base," said Peter Weber, Head of BMW's Munich Plant. By optimizing production processes and precisely configuring automated equipment, the plant aims to further reduce manufacturing costs and enhance overall production efficiency.

Regarding BMW's global production network strategy, Milan Nedeljković, BMW Group's Board Member for Production, stated that the company follows a "flexible factory" model, enabling production sites to manufacture both internal combustion engine vehicles and EVs simultaneously. This approach ensures stable delivery capabilities in various market environments.

Currently, all 31 BMW plants worldwide produce at least one pure EV model for the international market. Despite market fluctuations, BMW continues to expand its domestic production in Germany. In 2024, BMW's automotive production in Germany is expected to exceed one million units, accounting for a quarter of the country's total car production.
