Twin-turbocharged Engine

1:What is it?

1
What do you get when you combine turbocharging and supercharging? The answer is, of course, a twin-turbocharged system. Turbocharging and supercharging systems each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, the twin-turbo system is a combination of their strengths.

2:Principle

                                                                                                                                    3
A twin-turbocharged engine consists of one turbocharger and one supercharger working together. This dual-boost system combines the advantages of both turbocharging and supercharging, allowing the integration of these two different types of forced induction systems to complement each other. Volkswagen, as one of the first automotive manufacturers to apply twin-turbo systems using different types of boost (turbocharging and supercharging) to production vehicles, has achieved considerable maturity in the technical application of twin-turbo systems.

3:Function

4
The twin-turbocharged engine effectively addresses the issues of poor fuel economy in supercharged systems and the "turbo lag" phenomenon commonly experienced at low RPM in turbocharged systems. However, due to the complex structure of the twin-turbo system, it is not easy to match it with the engine, and it also requires high manufacturing standards for engine components. As a result, the application of twin-turbo systems is currently limited to certain vehicle models.
