On February 21, Volkswagen Group China announced that its subsidiary, Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd., along with its joint ventures SAIC Volkswagen, FAW-Volkswagen, and Volkswagen Anhui, recently signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with CATL, establishing a strategic partnership.

Leveraging their respective strengths, the two parties will focus on technological innovation and product upgrades, deepening collaboration in the fields of lithium battery R&D for new energy vehicles, new material applications, and component development. Together, they aim to develop technologically advanced and cost-competitive battery concepts and products.
Sanjeev Saxena, Executive Vice President and Head of Procurement at Volkswagen Group China, stated that deepening cooperation with CATL will help provide customers with high-performance and cost-effective battery solutions, enhance supply chain transparency and resilience, and better meet the demands of the new energy vehicle market.
Looking ahead, the two companies will further explore areas such as battery recycling, battery swapping, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, carbon reduction, and raw material supply chain transparency. This partnership will support Volkswagen Group China in seizing market opportunities, offering high-quality and safe new energy vehicles to Chinese consumers, and accelerating the transition to electrification.
