Tesla Issues Massive Recall in The U.S., Affecting 370,000+ Vehicles

Recently, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla is recalling over 376,241 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the power steering assist system.

The recall affects 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced between February 28, 2023, and October 11, 2023. Tesla stated that the printed circuit board in the electronic power steering assist system may be subjected to excessive stress, which could cause the vehicle to lose power steering assist when accelerating after coming to a stop. This may increase the difficulty of steering and raise the risk of collisions.

Tesla also emphasized that there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this defect. The issue will be resolved through an over-the-air (OTA) software update, meaning vehicle owners will not need to visit a service center. Affected owners are expected to receive official notification letters by March 25.

This is not the first time Tesla has issued a recall due to electronic power steering issues. In January of this year, Tesla announced a recall of 871,087 vehicles in the Chinese market due to a software issue in the electronic power steering system, which could potentially limit steering assist and lead to power steering failure, posing a safety risk. The recall involved domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured between January 3, 2022, and September 23, 2023.
