According to Reuters, Toyota Motor Corporation experienced a decline in global production and sales in April this year.

In terms of sales, Toyota sold a total of 797,097 vehicles worldwide in April, a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.5%. Nearly 40% of the vehicles sold by Toyota in April were hybrid electric vehicles, while only 2% were electric vehicles.

In the large and crowded Chinese automotive market, manufacturers have been embroiled in a fierce price war. Japanese automakers are under significant pressure to transition to selling electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids from Chinese brands. As a result, Toyota's sales in China plummeted by 27.3% year-on-year.

In the domestic Japanese market, Toyota's sales also dropped by 13.9% year-on-year. This decline was attributed to a temporary halt in production of the Prius model at Toyota's Tsutsumi plant due to quality inspections. Additionally, one production line at the Auto Body plant, responsible for manufacturing Noah and Voxy vans, was partially shut down. Toyota was also affected by the fallout from the Daihatsu scandal.

Regarding production, Toyota reported a 4.0% decrease in global production to 756,254 vehicles. This decline was due to reduced production in markets such as China, Japan, Thailand, and Mexico, which outweighed production increases in the United States and India.

According to a May report by Reuters, Toyota was forced to halt production multiple times in February and March at its Tijuana plant in Mexico, impacting the production of the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
