Tesla Secures $5 Million Electric Vehicle Order From The City Of Baltimore

According to media reports, officials from the City of Baltimore, USA, have confirmed that Tesla has secured an electric vehicle order valued at approximately $5 million.

Baltimore City aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045, and one of its early initiatives is the electrification of the government fleet. Earlier reports indicated that the city had purchased several electric school buses and even an electric wheel loader. Now, the city is procuring Tesla electric vehicles for its government employees.

The Baltimore City government issued a $5 million request for electric vehicle procurement, with two automakers submitting bids. In the end, Tesla won the contract.

Local media reported, "Baltimore City has been purchasing electric vehicles since 2018, but the latest move on June 5 marked the first time city officials voted to buy vehicles from Tesla. This is also the first time Tesla has responded to Baltimore's request for bids from automakers, resulting in vehicle sales to the city."

The Baltimore City government has not yet disclosed the number of Tesla vehicles planned for purchase under the contract, and the order has not been officially placed. However, it is confirmed that the order will include Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, with the likely number exceeding 100 units.

This is good news for Tesla, which has recently focused more on fleet sales, including in international markets.

However, Tesla has also faced some recent challenges. German retail giant Rossmann announced that it would stop purchasing electric vehicles from Tesla, citing concerns that Tesla CEO Elon Musk's support of Donald Trump contradicts the company's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
