According to Bloomberg, the Indian government stated that Tesla plans to procure auto parts from India worth up to $1.9 billion this year.
On September 13th, India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, mentioned in an event in New Delhi that Tesla had already purchased auto components worth $1 billion from India last year.
Representatives from Tesla did not immediately respond to international media requests for comments on this report.

In May of this year, after a year-long stalemate, Tesla reopened talks with India. Elon Musk had previously criticized India's high import tariffs and its electric vehicle policy. India, on the other hand, suggested that Tesla should not sell cars in India that are produced in China. In June, Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, stated that Tesla would make significant investments in India after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the United States.

Answering whether India would consider adopting Tesla's suggestions to reduce import tariffs on electric vehicles, Goyal remarked, "The Indian government offers equal opportunities to everyone. We will consult with all stakeholders and formulate a policy." Goyal pointed out that the Indian government hopes to see more investments and a higher electric vehicle production in the near future to achieve economies of scale.
India's Union Minister of Heavy Industries, Hanif Qureshi, mentioned at the same event that India is considering incentives for auto parts manufacturers, but did not provide any details. India's second phase of subsidy program, named "Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles" (FAME), will end in March, after which India will continue to provide incentives for electric vehicles.
