Spotlight On 2025 Shanghai Auto Show: All-New All-Electric Long-Wheelbase Mercedes-Benz CLA Debuts

At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the world premiere of its all-new all-electric long-wheelbase CLA, the first model based on the brand's MMA platform.

The new Mercedes-Benz CLA features a bold front design with a large trapezoidal grille embedded with numerous illuminated brand logos, emphasizing its electric identity. Both the front and rear light clusters include distinctive three-pointed star-shaped LED daytime running lights, giving the vehicle a highly recognizable look.

In terms of dimensions, the overseas standard wheelbase version measures 4722mm (L) × 1880mm (W) × 1468mm (H), with a wheelbase of 2789mm and a drag coefficient of 0.21. The new long-wheelbase electric CLA measures 4763mm (L) × 1856mm (W) × 1469mm (H), with an extended wheelbase of 2830mm-40mm longer than the standard version. This results in a more spacious rear seating area, with the rear seat cushion extended by 10mm and enhanced side bolsters for improved thigh support and overall comfort.

Inside, the CLA is equipped with a brand-new triple-screen setup consisting of a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, and an optional 14-inch passenger entertainment screen. It runs on Mercedes' latest MB.OS operating system, supporting AI voice assistant and 5G connectivity. The passenger screen also supports gesture control for cross-screen interaction. Notably, the intelligent driving and infotainment systems were led by the Mercedes-Benz China R&D team.

Powertrain options include both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive variants. The single-motor RWD version delivers 268 hp and accelerates from 0–96 km/h in 6.6 seconds. The AWD dual-motor version offers a combined 349 hp and hits 0–96 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Both versions feature a two-speed transmission and are powered by an 85kWh ternary lithium battery. The vehicle boasts an impressive maximum range of 866 km (CLIC cycle) and an energy consumption of 10.9 kWh per 100 km. With support for 800V fast-charging technology and a peak charging power of 325kW, a 10-minute charge can add up to 325 km of range.

For intelligent driving, the new CLA debuts the MB.OS architecture with full-scene L2++ advanced driver assistance. Hardware includes the top-tier NVIDIA Orin chip (254 TOPS of processing power), and a sensor suite built on high-definition cameras and millimeter-wave radar, supporting a pure vision solution. On the software side, it leverages an end-to-end large AI model without maps, capable of data-driven deep learning for planning and decision-making, alongside a rule-based algorithm system developed to meet Mercedes-Benz's global standards.
