According to Automotive News, Scout Motors has announced the appointment of Volkswagen Group veteran Jan-Henrik Lafrentz as its newly established Chief Operating Officer (COO), along with the promotion of another team member to lead production operations.

Lafrentz officially joined Scout as COO on April 1. Prior to this, he served as Chief Financial Officer at Bentley Motors. In February, the British ultra-luxury automaker announced that Lafrentz would be stepping down and taking on a new role within the Volkswagen Group.

Lafrentz began his career with Volkswagen in 1994 and has held leadership roles in finance, sales, and marketing across several VW brands, including Audi, SEAT, MAN (commercial trucks), and Bentley. Scout stated that the new COO position is intended to support the company's growth and strategic goals as it transitions from an EV startup into a fully operational automaker. In an email statement, Scout noted, "His deep expertise in automotive finance and operations, combined with his proven leadership, is critical to scaling our business and achieving our ambitious goals."

In October 2023, Scout unveiled its first two vehicle models: the Terra pickup and the Traveler SUV-both designed specifically for the U.S. market. Volkswagen has long been aiming to expand its footprint in the American automotive market.

Lafrentz will be based in Columbia, South Carolina, near Scout's upcoming $2 billion manufacturing facility in Blythewood, SC. He will also spend a significant amount of time at Scout's R&D center in Detroit. Automotive News also reported that Scout's Chief Financial Officer, Chris Condon, will report directly to Lafrentz.

Additionally, Scout announced the appointment of Oliver Wollinsky as Chief Production Officer. Previously serving as Vice President of Production, Wollinsky succeeds Jan Spies, who passed away in January. Wollinsky joined Scout in 2024, having previously worked as a plant manager at the SAIC Volkswagen joint venture.

Scout began construction of its assembly plant in February 2024 and expects production to begin in 2027. The company stated that Wollinsky has led the construction of two manufacturing plants and contributed to the development of Volkswagen Group's first EV-dedicated production facility. He also held production-related roles at Mercedes-Benz earlier in his career.
