The NIO ET5T has received a five-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP 2023 crash tests. This makes it the third NIO model to achieve the five-star rating under the new E-NCAP 2023 standards, following the ET5 and ES7. Additionally, in China, the NIO ET5 is rated as the top safety pick of the year by C-NCAP (China New Car Assessment Program) with an "AGGG" rating.

The E-NCAP 2023 has added a post-far-end pillar crash protection in the passive safety section, and penalties for front-end structural incompatibility have been doubled. To evaluate the ability to escape when submerged in water, a flooding test has been introduced. Pedestrian protection has been expanded to include protections for cyclists. In the active safety section, E-NCAP 2023 has added over 100 new active safety scenarios, introducing a wider variety of road target types, including cars, motorcycles, electric vehicles, bicycles, adults, and children. The complexity of road traffic scenarios has been increased, mainly including scenarios such as emergency situations involving pedestrians and two-wheelers crossing at intersections, handling oncoming vehicles at intersections, scenarios with oncoming vehicles approaching at high speeds, and scenarios involving lateral evasion of vehicles in adjacent lanes.

The ET5T scored 96% for passenger safety, 85% for child safety, 83% for vulnerable road user safety, and 81% for safety assist. Both the side deformation barrier and side pillar impact tests scored close to perfect. In the four full-vehicle collision tests for occupant protection, both the NIO ET5T and ET5 achieved the best historical results in the E-NCAP sedan category.
In terms of passenger safety, the NIO ET5T achieved a high score of 96%. In previous C-NCAP tests involving left and right 25% offset collisions, side impacts, and roof strength tests, the NIO ET5 consistently received a "G" rating.
