According to media reports, on June 15, local time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The meeting between the two discussed "innovation, opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence, European market regulations, and birth rates," as tweeted by the Italian Prime Minister.
According to an Instagram account that tracks Musk's private jet flight data, Musk arrived in Rome, Italy, on June 15 aboard his private plane. This marks the beginning of Musk's brief European trip. On June 16, local time, Musk is set to travel to France and deliver a speech at the Viva Tech Summit held in Paris. The Viva Tech Summit is reportedly France's largest technology exhibition.
Musk has repeatedly warned about the risks of artificial intelligence. In February of this year, he stated that AI is "one of the greatest risks facing humanity's future." Musk has also previously referred to the rapidly declining birth rate as "one of the greatest risks facing human civilization."
As Musk meets with the Italian Prime Minister, several European leaders from different countries have been trying to persuade Musk to establish a new car manufacturing factory in their respective countries. French Minister of Digital Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot told foreign media this week that the French government is trying to convince Musk that "France is the best location for Tesla's next factory in Europe."
French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his intention to meet with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on June 16 to lobby for a Tesla factory in France and discuss technology regulations.
During his participation in the Viva Tech Summit in Paris, Macron told reporters, "I will have an agenda. I will discuss with Musk topics such as artificial intelligence, social media, regulatory frameworks... And then I will also talk to him about cars, batteries, to enhance France and Europe's attractiveness."
