Mercedes-AMG Pure Electric Sports Car To Hit The Market in 2025

Mercedes-AMG is gearing up to commence the development of its first bespoke electric sports car, with an anticipated release in 2025. It will feature innovative powertrain system technology and may emerge as the most potent road car from AMG to date. Positioned as an electric alternative to the AMG GT 63 four-door coupe, which currently utilizes a V8 engine, the new car will compete with high-end electric models like the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Lucid Air.

Although AMG already offers 53 versions of the Mercedes-Benz EQE and EQS models, the new model will be a redesigned performance vehicle, focusing on straight-line acceleration, dynamic performance, and handling.

The new car will be a customized, performance-oriented electric architecture product, dubbed AMG.EA, featuring exterior design elements that further enhance AMG's characteristic low-slung and stylish profile showcased in the era of fuel-powered cars.

The exterior design may draw inspiration from the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vision AMG Concept, a concept car themed around racing sports, measuring 5100mm in length with a 3000mm wheelbase.

The interior will adopt a cockpit design centered around a full-width high-definition screen, similar to the Concept One-Eleven, with a four-seat layout.

Reportedly, the powertrain of the new model's dedicated platform will utilize advanced electric motor technology from the British company Yasa, which was acquired by Mercedes in 2021. The new motors are lighter, smaller, and more efficient. If a dual-motor configuration is adopted, the power output could exceed that of the AMG EQS 53 4matic by a considerable margin, potentially nearing 1000 horsepower.

Furthermore, a layout with dual motors at the rear axle may be utilized, indicating that all-wheel drive might not be a mandatory choice for AMG's next-generation sports car. Rear-mounted dual motors would serve aerodynamic purposes for the front-end design, achieving optimal aerodynamic efficiency with a closer-to-the-ground profile while maintaining ample luggage space with compact motors.

The new car will feature a custom-designed, ultra-thin high-energy battery using a new silicon anode material from the American company Sila, confirmed by Mercedes-Benz. Compared to traditional graphite anodes, the energy density can increase by 40%, significantly enhancing range and being more space-efficient internally.

Prototypes of the electric replacement for the AMG GT 63 are expected to hit the roads in the coming months, but the market launch may be slated for 2025, as traditional automakers typically undergo extensive validation processes for their products.
