These plug-in hybrids could be used in the new generations of Aston Martin's sports car lineup, which currently consists of the Vantage, DB11, and DBS. However, it remains to be seen whether these will really be completely new models or merely major facelifts of the current generations. Aston Martin will continue to benefit from its partnership with Mercedes Benz. Having said that, it is already clear that the first renewed model will be the DB11, which will then drive into the future under as the DB12.
Considering the brand's tight financial situation, it could make sense to lead the current combustion base into the future with extensive facelifts. According to Aston Martin, however, the pure combustion variants will be phased out by 2030 and accordingly, only plug-in hybrids will be offered on this basis. This strategy would be supported by the fact that Aston Martin is currently developing an all-electric sports car, which is expected to be launched as early as 2025.
The strategy of only offering electrified models from 2030 onwards is likely to include an electric SUV, which according to new information is also in development and could come off the production line at the Gaydon plant in parallel to the already announced sports car. However, whether this will necessarily be the successor to the DBX remains open as an electric competitor to the Porsche Macan.
In any case, owner Lawrance Stroll announced more detailed information about the future lineup for a capital market day in the summer. In fact, according to CNBC, Aston Martin shares surged by 14 percent on a profitability forecast for 2023.
