General Motors Gradually Phases Out CarPlay/Android Auto

General Motors (GM) has announced that starting this year, it will begin to phase out Apple's CarPlay and Android Auto, fully abandoning them by 2024 in favor of Google's Android Automotive platform for joint in-car system development.

Previously, Cadillac formally launched its third all-electric product, the ESCALADE IQ. As the name suggests, this vehicle represents the electric incarnation of the brand's flagship SUV, the ESCALADE. This car is set to begin production next summer, with a pre-tax starting price estimated at $130,000, equivalent to about 940,000 yuan. Foreign media have confirmed with General Motors that this all-electric SUV will not natively support Apple's CarPlay or Google's Android Auto. Starting with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, which goes on sale this summer, subsequent new cars will no longer natively offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This phasing out plan will begin to be deployed to gasoline-powered cars by 2035.

GM stated that its brands, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC, will also sequentially initiate the replacement process. GM and Google have been developing in-car systems since 2019, integrating navigation, Super Cruise, and many other GM-exclusive services. Additionally, it comes with built-in apps like Spotify and Audible.
