On April 29th, GAC Passenger Car and Hualishan Chanson Automobile Co., Ltd. held the completion and production ceremony for the Malaysian CKD factory in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. The Sijianmao factory is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is a new factory built jointly by GAC and Chanson, meeting GAC's standards. The factory's standard production capacity is 34,400 units per year, with a maximum capacity of over 50,000 units per year. It is expected that GAC's production and sales in Malaysia will exceed 2,000 units this year, and the introduction of new models is actively progressing.
This project is GAC's first overseas CKD project, launched in May 2023, and it marks an important step for GAC in expanding into overseas markets. The GAC GS3 became the first model to be assembled locally in Malaysia. CKD refers to completely knocked-down parts entering the country for assembly, typically seen in the early stages of automotive factories. As the parts supply system is established, the localization rate of automotive factories will gradually increase, leading to independent research and development and production capabilities.
Before the production ceremony, leaders and technical experts from GAC and Hualishan Chanson conducted rigorous evaluations on aspects such as factory construction, production systems, production readiness, quality development, and mass production models (Malaysia CKD project G1 valve - mass production launch review meeting). The review committee successfully approved the pre-production evaluation of the GS3 Velocity model produced in advance at the Sijianmao factory in Malaysia, with all indicators meeting mass production standards. The review committee agreed to the completion of the factory and the mass production of the model.
The response of the Malaysian market to GAC models has been quite positive, with all CBU imported vehicles sold out immediately upon launch. GAC and Hualishan Chanson expressed their intentions to introduce more CKD models to the Malaysian market as soon as possible.
