Fatal Crash Involving Tesla Cybertruck: NHTSA Seeks More Information

According to media reports, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on August 5 that it is seeking more information from electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla regarding a fatal accident involving its electric pickup, the Cybertruck.

Reports indicate that the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck was pronounced dead following an accident in Chambers County, Texas. After the accident, the Cybertruck caught fire, and images from the scene show that most of the vehicle was burned.

Due to the severe burns on the driver's body, authorities have not yet confirmed the identity, and investigators are unsure why the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Although the cause of the accident is currently unclear, it is certain that it is not related to Tesla's advanced driver assistance systems, Autopilot and FSD, as the Cybertruck does not yet support these features.

Tesla and the Chambers County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the media. NHTSA stated that so far, Tesla has initiated four recalls for its 2024 Cybertruck.

After years of delays and production challenges, Tesla began deliveries of this electric pickup, inspired by the movie "Blade Runner," in November 2023.
