According to a report from Bloomberg, sources familiar with the matter revealed that the European Union is preparing to further reduce additional tariffs on Tesla and other electric vehicles imported from China.
On August 20, the European Commission adjusted some of the proposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, reducing the additional tariff on companies not cooperating with the EU's anti-subsidy investigation from 37.6% to 36.3%. Companies that cooperated with the investigation were generally subject to a 21.3% tariff, while Tesla's tariff was significantly reduced from the previous 20.8% to 9%.

Now, foreign media report that the EU has further lowered some of these tariffs. Mlex first reported the change, stating that Tesla's tariff has been reduced from 9% to 7.8%, while the highest tariff on Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers not cooperating with the EU's investigation (such as SAIC Group) was lowered from 36.3% to 35.3%. Geely's tariff was reduced from 19.3% to 18.8%, while BYD's tariff remains at 17%.
Sources indicate that the EU adjusted the tariffs again because some companies provided new information.
EU member states will vote on the proposed final tariffs before they take effect in November. It is worth noting that these additional tariffs are imposed on top of the 10% tariffs already levied on Chinese exporters.
As discussions between the EU and relevant parties continue and companies continue to provide new information, the final tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles may be subject to further adjustments.
