The U.S. automotive safety regulatory agency recently announced an investigation into 454,840 Nissan vehicles due to reports indicating that engine malfunctions could result in power loss and an inability to start.

Currently, the agency has initiated a preliminary assessment of Nissan Rogue, Altima, and Infiniti QX50 models. Prior to this, a total of six consumer complaints related to these issues have been received.
Vehicle owners reported engine malfunctions, power loss, engine knocking noises, and the discovery of metal blocks and shavings in the oil pan for certain models equipped with KR15DDT and KR20DDET engines.
The regulatory agency stated that Nissan has been attempting to address problems such as main bearing and connecting rod damage or engine seizing by making multiple changes to the manufacturing process. The agency anticipates that the investigation may expand if necessary.
