According to media reports, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has been nominated as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize by Marius Nielsen, a member of the Norwegian Progress Party, making him one of the outstanding individuals competing for the Nobel Peace Prize this year.
Other nominees include United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Palestinian journalist Hind Khoudary, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, and former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The winner of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize will be selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which consists of five anonymous members appointed by the Norwegian Parliament. The shortlist for the Nobel Peace Prize is expected to be announced by the end of March, and the majority vote results are expected to be announced by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in October, with the award ceremony expected to take place at the end of this year.
According to the official website of the Norwegian Parliament, Marius Nielsen is a member of the Norwegian Energy and Environment Committee. In a report in the New York Post, Nielsen stated, "Elon Musk has founded, owned, or operated numerous technology companies aimed at improving society, increasing understanding of the Earth and space, and promoting global communication and connectivity...helping to bring the world closer together and safer."

Nielsen pointed out in a report in the Daily Mail that Musk's contributions to freedom of speech through the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) enable "people from all over the world to discuss, exchange ideas, learn, understand, and understand each other, which is a very valuable contribution to the prosperity and peace of the world."
He also noted, "Only through dialogue with critical thinkers and those with opposing views can different perspectives be sharpened, and humanity can and will develop and progress together. Echoing and nodding people will not bring about the best ideas and cooperation, only decline and regression. Complementary viewpoints, opinions, and thought processes will inspire the best ideas."
Musk's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize is bound to be controversial, but it is worth noting that he is not the first controversial figure nominated by a member of the Norwegian Progress Party. In 2020, Norwegian Progress Party member Christian Tybring-Gjedde nominated former U.S. President Trump as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, but the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize was ultimately awarded to the World Food Programme.
