According to media reports, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that his planned visit to India from April 21st to 22nd, 2024, has been canceled. Musk stated that due to the high workload at Tesla currently, the trip to India has been postponed, but he still looks forward to visiting India later this year.
Indian media first reported this news, which Musk later confirmed on his social media platform, X. Musk wrote, "Unfortunately, Tesla's workload is very heavy, so I need to postpone my visit to India, but I'm very much looking forward to visiting India later this year."
Before Musk announced this news, his visit to India seemed to be well-planned. Musk even mentioned on X that he looked forward to meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Musk's planned visit to India was timely, as India recently introduced a new electric vehicle manufacturing policy, seemingly aimed at attracting investments from companies like Tesla.
Earlier reports indicated that Musk would stay in India for two days from April 21st to 22nd, 2024. During his visit, Musk was expected not only to meet with Prime Minister Modi but also with other important government officials. Reports also mentioned his meetings with Indian industry representatives. Insiders further revealed that Musk would discuss Tesla and Starlink during his visit to India.
While India may seem elusive for Tesla, Musk himself pointed out during a previous X Spaces conference that the Indian market is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, establishing operations in India for companies like Tesla is a logical step. Musk stated, "India now has the world's largest population, and India should have electric cars, just like other countries. Providing Tesla electric cars in India is a natural progression."
