CATL’s Battery Swap Stations To Launch in Hong Kong: 10 Stations To Be Built By End Of 2025

On June 13, the official WeChat account of Chocolate Battery Swap reported that Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), through its subsidiaries EVOGO Technology Co., Ltd. and Times Xiaojukeji New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., has signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Hong Kong with China FAW Group Import & Export Co., Ltd. and Longsung New Energy Holdings Limited. The partnership aims to jointly promote the large-scale deployment of battery-swappable electric commercial vehicles in Hong Kong and initiate the construction of local battery swap infrastructure-marking a key milestone for the implementation of CATL's standardized "Chocolate Battery Swap" model in the Hong Kong–Macau region.

Earlier in January this year, CATL, FAW Hongqi, and Longsung New Energy jointly announced the groundbreaking of Hong Kong's first Chocolate battery swap station for passenger vehicles, located on Ping Che Road in Fanling, New Territories.

According to the initial plan, CATL, FAW Hongqi, and Longsung New Energy aim to build a network of Chocolate battery swap stations across all regions of Hong Kong and deploy Hongqi E-QM5 electric taxis. Their long-term goal is to establish a new energy mobility network based on the "Chocolate Battery Swap" model that covers Hong Kong and extends to ASEAN countries, supporting the region's green transportation transition.

As introduced, the four-party collaboration offers an integrated Chocolate battery swap solution featuring "2-minute ultra-fast battery swaps + vehicle-battery separation for cost reduction + full lifecycle battery management." Under the cooperation plan, 10 battery swap stations are expected to be completed by the end of 2025, forming a comprehensive swap network that spans all districts of Hong Kong.

The responsibilities among the four partners are clearly defined:

China FAW will focus on vehicle development and after-sales support;

EVOGO (CATL subsidiary) will manage battery assets and recycling;

Times Xiaojukeji will provide digital operations for swap stations;

Longsung New Energy will oversee local infrastructure implementation and vehicle promotion.

The partners stated that this initiative will take Hong Kong as a starting point to develop a globally competitive new energy industry hub. Leveraging Hong Kong's strategic location, the program is expected to expand into Southeast Asia and continue advancing the global rollout of the "Chocolate Battery Swap" model based on user-centered demand.
