In January 2023, Uzbekistan Automotive Industry Company and Chinese automaker BYD officially registered a joint venture company in Uzbekistan, aiming to produce and sell BYD electric and hybrid new energy vehicles locally. This company marks BYD's first overseas joint venture and began sales in February 2023. BYD has successfully established 10 official sales and service centers in Uzbekistan. Localized production of BYD vehicles in Uzbekistan will include support for Russian, English, and Uzbek languages, leading to reduced purchase prices and after-sales service costs.

In September 2023, the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan signed an "Investment Agreement for the Production of Electric and Hybrid Cars and Their Components in Uzbekistan" with BYD. According to the agreement, BYD will establish a joint venture, "BYD Uzbekistan Plant," with the Uzbekistan state-owned holding company Uzavtosanoat JSC, to produce electric and hybrid cars. The planned production for the first and second phases is 50,000 vehicles, reaching 300,000 vehicles after the third phase. The initial production at the factory will include two popular models, the Qin and the Song, along with related components.

In October 2023, BYD signed an agreement with the Tashkent city government in Uzbekistan. The Tashkent government will purchase 2,000 electric buses from BYD, jointly promoting the local electrification of public transportation. According to the agreement, BYD will provide high-level customized products and comprehensive after-sales services based on Tashkent's local climate and road conditions. The first batch of 200 K9UD buses is expected to commence operations in Tashkent in 2024.

BYD's entry into Uzbekistan is a strategic part of its global expansion. Recently, BYD launched multiple new models in Indonesia and announced a $1.3 billion investment to construct a car factory in Indonesia with an estimated capacity of 150,000 vehicles. There are reports suggesting that BYD plans to build its first electric passenger car factory in Brazil in South America. BYD has been in discussions with Brazilian lithium producer Sigma Lithium regarding potential supply, joint ventures, or acquisitions. Additionally, BYD has established car factories in Thailand and Hungary, with negotiations ongoing for a factory in Mexico with the local government.
