BYD Mexico Factory Could Create 10,000 Jobs

According to Bloomberg, BYD's planned factory in Mexico is expected to create around 10,000 jobs, making it comparable in size to some of the largest automobile plants in Mexico.

In March this year, BYD sent a delegation to Jalisco, Mexico, to consider establishing an electric vehicle factory there. Jalisco's Minister of Economic Development, Roberto Arechederra, mentioned that BYD conducted an in-depth analysis of the number of educational centers and population near the potential factory site, and was impressed by the state's ecosystem and infrastructure.

In the latest report, BYD's general manager in Mexico, Jorge Vallejo, stated in an interview that BYD is in the final stages of negotiations regarding the factory's location and is expected to make an official announcement in the coming months.

Compared to other automakers like Audi, BYD's Mexico factory will employ more workers. However, Jorge Vallejo did not specify how many of the approximately 10,000 employees would be directly hired by BYD and how many would be employed through contractors or suppliers. Currently, Volkswagen's Puebla plant is the largest in Mexico, employing 6,100 assembly line workers, 5,000 management staff, and thousands of parts assembly workers.

Jorge Vallejo also mentioned that BYD aims to sell 50,000 cars in Mexico this year. In May, BYD launched the SHARK hybrid truck in Mexico. As BYD continues to expand in the Mexican market, Mexico's importance to BYD is also increasing.
