What is the Minimum Turning Radius of a Vehicle?

The "Radius of Turning Circle" refers to the distance from the center of steering to the point where the front outer steering wheel touches the ground during a vehicle's movement. The turning radius when the steering wheel is turned to its extreme position is known as the minimum turning radius.

When the steering wheel is turned to its maximum limit, the distance from the steering center to the center of the outer front steering wheel's contact with the ground is termed as the minimum turning radius. It represents a car's capability to navigate roads with the smallest curvature and its ability to make a U-turn on narrow roads.

The turning radius directly affects a vehicle's maneuverability. A smaller turning radius means that a car can more easily navigate through narrow, winding areas or circumvent insurmountable obstacles, making it more agile. The turning radius is directly related to the vehicle's wheelbase, track width, and the maximum angle of the steering wheel. A larger wheelbase and track width result in a larger turning radius; conversely, a greater maximum steering angle results in a smaller turning radius.
