Pearlescent paint, also known as a "Pearl Finish" or "Mica Paint," is a type of automotive finish. Instead of using aluminum particles, it incorporates mica pigmented with titanium dioxide and iron oxide. When light hits the mica particles, it takes on the colors of the titanium dioxide and iron oxide and undergoes complex refraction and interference within the mica particles.

Owing to the inherent color of mica, a transparent and unique shimmering color can be emitted. As the angle of incoming light changes, the refraction and interference shift, resulting in varying colors when viewed from different angles. This type of paint is particularly effective on vehicle bodies with many curved surfaces.
