What is metallic car paint?

Metallic paint, also known as metallic flake paint, is a popular type of automotive finish nowadays. Fine aluminum particles are added to its base, which reflect light after it strikes the aluminum particles. As a result, it appears as if the metal is shimmering.

Besides its high hardness, metallic paint enhances the contours of the car body. Another reason for the increasing prevalence of "metallic paint" is its incorporation of metallic powder. With the addition of metal components, the paint becomes harder, resulting in a tougher surface that is less prone to scratches. Some "solid color paints" are not metallic. The most typical colors include white, black, bright red, and yellow. It's not that these colors cannot have silver powder added, but when they do, the displayed color deviates from the original hue. White becomes pearl white, black turns into a shiny "charcoal black," red transforms into the so-called "wine red," and yellow evolves into "golden yellow."
