What is One-Pedal Mode?

One-pedal mode is an auxiliary configuration developed based on the brake energy recovery system. It allows drivers to control the acceleration and deceleration of the vehicle using a single accelerator pedal. Pressing down on the pedal accelerates the vehicle, while lifting off the pedal applies the brakes. Both brake energy recovery and one-pedal mode are among the new technologies introduced in new energy vehicles.

It's worth noting that the one-pedal mode is just one of the vehicle's auxiliary functions. Cars equipped with this feature still have a separate brake pedal. However, under normal circumstances, only one pedal is needed to control both acceleration and braking of the car. The traditional brake pedal can still be used in emergency braking situations. When releasing the accelerator pedal, the brake energy recovery system starts to operate, recovering the vehicle's kinetic energy while reducing its speed. This energy recovery is primarily achieved through motor drag and is stored in the generator, optimizing the range.

The one-pedal mode can reduce the frequency of movements for the right foot, with mechanical brakes rarely needed except in emergencies, thus reducing fatigue. At the same time, the brake energy recovery system effectively extends the driving range of electric vehicles, minimizing energy wastage. Motor drag can, to some extent, replace traditional brake discs, reducing wear and further lowering vehicle maintenance costs.
