What does RSCA OFF mean in a car?

In many off-road vehicles, many have discovered a mysterious switch labeled "RSCA OFF". This switch is seldom seen in regular passenger cars, leaving many puzzled about whether it should be activated or not. So, what does "RSCA OFF" truly signify?

Pay Attention to the RSCA OFF Switch When Off-Roading

The "RSCA OFF" switch stands for "Roll-Sensing Curtain Airbags OFF". Note that the switch itself indicates "OFF", so pressing the switch means turning it off. To utilize the RSCA OFF function, press and hold the switch for a few seconds. When the dashboard's RSCA OFF indicator light turns on, the airbags will not deploy.

Why should you press the RSCA OFF switch while off-roading? This is because, during extreme off-road driving, especially when dune bashing, there's a heightened risk of the vehicle rolling over. With the airbag inflation function deactivated, even if a rollover occurs during off-roading, the airbags won't deploy, and the seatbelts won't tighten automatically, allowing drivers and passengers easier egress from the cabin.

1:Note, when the vehicle's RSCA OFF indicator light is on:

2:In the event of a rollover, curtain airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners will not activate.

3:During a severe side collision, the curtain airbags will deploy.

4:During a severe frontal collision, the seatbelt pre-tensioners will activate.
