Symptoms of Excessive Carbon Buildup in the Throttle Body and Increased Fuel Consumption After Cleaning

There are many symptoms of excessive carbon buildup in the throttle body. Among the most noticeable is the impact on the engine's power. If the vehicle exhibits unstable idling, difficulty in starting, or a decline in power, it indicates excessive carbon accumulation in the throttle body. Furthermore, if there's too much carbon in the throttle body, it may not close tightly, leading to continuous fuel supply and, consequently, significantly increased fuel consumption. Therefore, if there is excessive carbon buildup in the vehicle's throttle body, it's advisable to decarbonize it promptly.

Why is fuel consumption frighteningly high after cleaning the throttle body?

1:After cleaning the throttle body, if no corresponding matching operation is performed, the driving computer's detection program calculates and adjusts the fuel injection based on the previous state of the throttle body. This results in increased fuel consumption after cleaning. Generally, after driving for a certain period, the driving computer will automatically adapt and adjust the fuel injection amount.

2:If there is excessive carbon buildup in the throttle body and it hasn't been cleaned for a long time, components like the throttle valve and arm might have significant wear. After cleaning, the gaps between these parts may increase, leading to higher fuel consumption.

3:After cleaning the throttle body, if other parts are not cleaned, an imbalance arises. Normally, the throttle body and other intake components are in a balanced state. Cleaning only the throttle body without addressing other parts breaks this balance, naturally increasing fuel consumption.

How to reduce the formation of carbon buildup in the throttle body?

1:Use high-quality fuel. If a vehicle is fueled with low-quality petrol, more impurities are produced during combustion, resulting in more carbon buildup. Refer to the user manual provided when purchasing the car, and choose high-octane fuel based on its guidance.

2:Occasionally drive at high speeds. When the car operates at high speeds, the engine parts work intensively, and the intake pipe experiences significant impact, washing away some of the carbon buildup.

3:Avoid prolonged idling. When the engine idles for extended periods, less air enters the engine, resulting in less efficient fuel combustion and faster carbon accumulation.
