Is it Good to Use Cruise Control on the Highway?

Whether using cruise control on the highway is good or not, drivers need to make wise choices based on actual circumstances.

On one hand, activating cruise control can bring some benefits to drivers who spend extended periods on the highway.

Firstly, this feature helps alleviate driver fatigue. By freeing the driver's feet from constantly controlling the accelerator pedal, the driver can relax more comfortably in the seat, focusing on observing the road conditions and other operations.

Secondly, the presence of cruise control aids in maintaining a steady speed, avoiding frequent speed changes and thereby saving fuel. This is an apparent advantage for owners who frequently drive on highways.

However, it is essential to recognize that the use of cruise control requires careful consideration and should be used under appropriate conditions. On one hand, the feature is not suitable for congested roads, complex environments, or roads with heavy traffic.

In these situations, drivers should proactively disable the cruise control function to respond more flexibly to unexpected circumstances. Rainy and icy weather are also times to disable cruise control, as road conditions may be unstable, requiring drivers to adjust the speed more frequently to ensure safety.

To fully utilize the cruise control function, drivers need to understand the correct usage procedures.

Before engaging cruise control, press the switch key to activate the system, then accelerate to the desired speed and press the set key to establish the current speed. Once set, releasing the accelerator will maintain a constant speed.

If slight adjustments to speed are needed, pressing the set key again or using the resume speed key can be employed. Canceling cruise control only requires pressing the brake pedal or the cancel key. This operational procedure enables drivers to have better control over cruise control.
