How to Adjust Car Headlights

Car headlights play a crucial role in driving by providing illumination and signaling to other vehicles. If the headlight position is accidentally misadjusted, here's how to reset it. Below are the steps for adjusting car headlights:

Headlight Adjustment Button Inside the Car

Many vehicles are equipped with an interior button for adjusting headlight height, typically offering four levels to choose from for easy adjustment based on your needs.

Manual Adjustment Knob

For older models, open the hood to locate the manual adjustment knob. After ensuring the vehicle is stable, make suitable adjustments to optimize the light coverage.

Automatic Level Adjustment

Some high-end models have an automatic adjustment feature that uses sensor signals to intelligently adjust headlight height without driver intervention.

Correcting Headlight Misalignment

At night, position the car about 8 meters (26 feet) from a wall and turn on the headlights.

Cover the left headlight with a thick cloth and check if the height of the right headlight matches the specifications in the car's manual.

Mark the position of the right headlight, then cover the right headlight to check the left one. Adjust both sides accordingly to meet the guidelines.

It's recommended to adjust headlights at night, on a safe section of road. Aim low beams at a 30-meter (98-foot) reference object and align high beams parallel to the ground. Proper headlight adjustment not only improves night driving safety but also helps prevent unnecessary accidents.
