How Different is WLTC Fuel Consumption from Real-World Fuel Consumption?

From one perspective, the WLTC (Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Cycles) fuel consumption test cycle and its average speed design make it more representative of real-world driving conditions. By simulating various global road conditions on a test bench, WLTC can more accurately reflect the actual fuel consumption of a vehicle.

In contrast, the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) is more laboratory-focused and does not adequately represent varying road conditions and speed changes in different congestion scenarios, resulting in significant discrepancies in fuel consumption data. Since July 1, 2021, China has transitioned its passenger car fuel consumption test standard from NEDC to WLTC. This shift is beneficial for protecting consumer rights and ensuring that vehicle range data is closer to actual conditions.

In the future, as more countries around the world adopt the WLTC standard, the likelihood of WLTC replacing NEDC is increasing. Overall, WLTC fuel consumption data is closer to real-world values.
