Dongfeng Motor Corporation, also known as Dongfeng Motor Group, is a limited liability company established with sole investment from the state. It is supervised and managed by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, which acts as the institution responsible for fulfilling the obligations of the investor. Under the authorization of the law, administrative regulations, and the State Council, it represents the State Council in fulfilling its investor responsibilities for the company.

Dongfeng Motor Corporation is one of the four major automotive groups in China and a member of the Fortune China 500. Headquartered in Wuhan, the largest city in Central China, the company traces its origins back to the "Second Automobile Manufacturing Plant" established in Shiyan, Hubei in 1969. Over the past fifty years, it has gradually developed four major production bases: Shiyan (focused on medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, components, and automotive equipment), Xiangyang (focused on light-duty commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles), Wuhan (focused on passenger vehicles), and Guangzhou (focused on passenger vehicles). In addition, the company has branch enterprises in Shanghai, Liuzhou (Guangxi), Yancheng (Jiangsu), Nanchong (Sichuan), Zhengzhou (Henan), Urumqi (Xinjiang), Chaoyang (Liaoning), Hangzhou (Zhejiang), Kunming (Yunnan), and other locations.
Dongfeng Corporation is a large-scale automotive enterprise under the direct supervision of the central government. It was formerly known as the "Second Automobile Manufacturing Plant" established in Shiyan, Hubei in 1969. On September 4, 1992, it was renamed Dongfeng Motor Corporation. On June 21, 2006, the company's headquarters was officially relocated from Shiyan, Hubei to Wuhan. On November 4, 2017, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce announced the change of the company's name to Dongfeng Motor Corporation. On November 14, 2017, the company completed the business registration change. In 2018, it ranked 65th on the Fortune Global 500 list. In 2019, it ranked 4th among China's top 500 manufacturing enterprises and 2nd among China's top 500 machinery enterprises. It also ranked 33rd on the "Belt and Road" China Enterprises Top 100 list. In April 2020, it was selected as a "Model Enterprise for Scientific and Technological Innovation" by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. In 2020, it ranked 100th on the Fortune Global 500 list.
