Cylinder boring

1:What is it?

Strictly speaking, it is a procedure during the major overhaul of an engine.

2

2:Why is it performed?

After prolonged operation, the cylinder in an engine can experience severe wear, leading to air leakage and resulting in issues such as oil burning, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption. In such cases, cylinder boring is necessary. Cylinder boring is the process of machining the inner walls of the cylinder to make them smooth again, allowing for a tight fit with the piston. Since a thin layer of the cylinder wall surface is removed during the grinding process, it inevitably causes a slight increase in cylinder diameter, necessitating the replacement of corresponding components such as piston rings.
