Volkswagen To Collaborate With Valeo And Mobileye On Advanced Driver Assistance System

On March 25, Volkswagen Group announced a partnership with Valeo and Mobileye to upgrade the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) for its upcoming MQB-based vehicle lineup, bringing it to Level 2+ ("Enhanced Partial Automation").

The new system is equipped with a 360-degree surround-view setup comprising multiple cameras and radars, along with software-defined functionalities. In addition to enabling hands-free driving on approved highway sections under specific conditions, the system offers features such as traffic jam assist, hazard detection, parking assistance, driver monitoring, and 360-degree emergency assistance, enhancing safety for both occupants and pedestrians. Furthermore, it has the capability to integrate future-forward technologies, such as augmented reality displays.

Within this system, Valeo provides high-performance electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and parking solutions, while Mobileye contributes its Surround ADAS™ platform, including the EyeQ™6 processor and mapping technology. This marks the first time these elements have been integrated into a single system, replacing multiple ECUs with a single centralized unit. This integration enhances efficiency and system performance while supporting over-the-air (OTA) updates to meet evolving safety standards.

The collaboration, set to roll out in the coming years, aims to enhance safety and driving comfort for Volkswagen's mass-production models, aligning with customer expectations and regulatory requirements.

Dirk Große-Loheide, Head of Procurement at Volkswagen Brand and Member of the Extended Executive Committee of the Group, stated:
"This partnership is a key enabler of our transformation strategy. By integrating hardware and software procurement, we have streamlined processes, simplified systems, and improved efficiency. Advancing technology while maintaining cost advantages strengthens our group's performance plan and delivers high-quality solutions to our customers."

Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo's Brain Division, expressed his excitement about the collaboration:
"At Valeo, we are committed to driving innovation in advanced driver assistance technology. We are thrilled to embark on this journey and, together with Mobileye, provide Volkswagen with a comprehensive solution that delivers cutting-edge and affordable advanced driving capabilities to its end users."

Professor Amnon Shashua, President and CEO of Mobileye, remarked:
"Through our collaboration with Valeo and Volkswagen Group, this integrated hardware-software approach brings AI-driven innovation into real-world applications. By improving both safety and comfort in driver assistance systems while optimizing efficiency and cost, this system sets the direction for the next generation of driving technology."
