On January 10, Tesla China announced the launch of the refreshed Model Y. The new car is available in two configurations, with starting prices of $36,890 and $42,490, representing a price increase of $1,764–$1,904 compared to the previous version.
Tesla's official slogan for the refreshed Model Y is "New Model Y, Compare Freely." In response, Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun commented on Weibo with a simple "Good."
Exterior Design
The refreshed Model Y is no longer just an enlarged version of the Model 3 but features a lower drag design while retaining Tesla's signature elements such as a panoramic sunroof, frameless doors, and hidden door handles.
Interior Features
Inside, the refreshed Model Y continues its minimalist design, featuring a 15-inch rectangular display and an AMD Ryzen processor for the infotainment system. The interface remains clean and user-friendly, with quick menus for easier operation. New additions include wraparound ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and rear seats extended by an additional 15mm for improved comfort. When folded with a single button, the rear seats provide over 2,130 liters of storage space.
Other Configurations
The refreshed Model Y is equipped with 16 speakers, remote safety airbags as standard, AI Hardware 4.0, and 8 cameras for enhanced safety. The car boasts a robust structural design and advanced driver assistance features, claimed to be 10 times safer than human driving.
Performance and Range
The new Model Y is available in three variants: rear-wheel drive, long-range all-wheel drive, and performance. Their maximum power outputs are 220 kW, 331 kW, and 357 kW, respectively, with 0-100 km/h acceleration times of 5.9 seconds, 5 seconds, and 3.7 seconds.
Tesla states that the refreshed Model Y is the longest-range Model Y to date. The long-range all-wheel-drive version offers an estimated CLTC range of up to 719 kilometers and an energy consumption rate as low as 11.9 kWh/100 km. It can travel 1,000 kilometers with just one mid-trip charge, adding approximately 250 kilometers of range in 15 minutes.
Delivery and Promotions
According to Tesla's website, the refreshed Model Y is expected to begin delivery in March, pending regulatory approval. The first edition is available for a limited time until February 28 and includes a complimentary extended warranty of 2 years/40,000 kilometers.
For the previous Model Y, Tesla is currently offering a $1,400 discount on remaining inventory, which can be combined with a limited-time 5-year 0% interest financing plan.
