Spoiler Extends Too Far: Porsche Recalls 53 Units Of 718 in The U.S.

Recently, according to overseas media reports, Porsche announced the recall of a total of 53 vehicles in the United States, including the 2023 and 2024 models of the 718 Cayman GTS, 2024 718 Boxster GTS, and 2024 718 Boxster S.

The reason for this recall is related to the active rear spoiler equipped in these vehicles. When extended, it affects the visibility of the Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL), violating relevant safety regulations. Porsche stated that in October 2023, due to a coding error by a factory employee in the electronic control unit, the position of the rear spoiler was higher than the standard height. Currently, no related accidents or other complaints have been reported.

Porsche technicians will address this issue by writing new code for the rear electronic control unit of the vehicles. Porsche will begin notifying affected customers on February 2, 2024. North American owners can log on to www.nhtsa.gov/recalls, enter their vehicle identification number, and check if their vehicle is affected by this issue.
