According to data on November 28th, the quotation for battery-grade lithium carbonate has dropped by 2,000 yuan per ton, with the average daily quotation reaching 136,000 yuan per ton. This continues the recent downward trend in lithium prices and sets a new low for quotations since the beginning of this year. This development will further reduce the manufacturing cost of new energy vehicles.
In November 2022, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate once approached the high point of 600,000 yuan per ton. It quickly entered a downward trend, and by April 2023, the price had dropped to 200,000 yuan per ton.
The continuous decline in the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate will lead to a reduction in the manufacturing cost of new energy vehicles, thereby facilitating a decrease in prices. Zhu Jiangming, the Chairman of Leapmotor, has stated, "For every 100,000 yuan decrease in lithium carbonate, each kWh of the battery saves 50 yuan. A 70 kWh battery pack can save 3,500 yuan." Some analysts point out that the price of lithium carbonate may eventually fall below 100,000 yuan per ton.
