Porsche To Persist With Phasing Out Some Internal Combustion Engine Models

According to Reuters, Porsche's head of production has stated that despite the recent weak demand for battery-powered vehicles, Porsche will continue its plan to transition certain models to electric vehicles.

Porsche Executive Board Member Albrecht Reimold indicated that the gasoline version of the Macan SUV, aimed at markets outside Europe, will be discontinued in 2026. Reimold said, "This platform has reached the end of its lifecycle."

However, a Porsche spokesperson mentioned that the earlier report by German media Automobilwoche, claiming that "Porsche is accelerating its transition to electric vehicles," is not accurate.

Reimold stated, "I will not define the success of the electric Macan by a single number." He also added that the gasoline versions of the Boxster and Cayman sports cars (collectively known as the "718 series") will be phased out starting next year, with Porsche now focusing on the electric versions set to be launched next year.

According to Reimold, despite the overall decline in demand for electric vehicles, Porsche will concentrate on the electric Macan model after discontinuing the gasoline version to advance the company's sustainability agenda.

Currently, production of the gasoline-powered Porsche 718 series and Macan models for the European market has already ceased.
