On February 13, Li Auto announced that its self-developed silicon carbide (SiC) power chips have been successfully installed. Additionally, its independently developed and manufactured SiC power modules and next-generation electric drive systems have entered mass production at Li Auto's semiconductor production base in Suzhou and its electric drive production base in Changzhou, respectively.
Li Auto's power semiconductor research and production base was officially established in Suzhou High-Tech Zone in May 2022. Later, on August 24 of the same year, the company officially began construction of the facility.
The production base is being developed by Suzhou SiCore Semiconductor, a joint venture between Li Auto and Hunan Sanan Semiconductor. According to the original plan, construction was expected to be completed by the end of 2022, followed by equipment installation and commissioning. Sample trial production began in the first half of 2023, and mass production commenced in 2024. The facility is projected to gradually scale up production, eventually reaching an annual capacity of 2.4 million SiC half-bridge power modules.
At the same time, Li Auto confirmed that these three core technologies will be gradually integrated into its pure electric vehicle models.
Zhang Xiao, Head of Li Auto's Product Line, stated, "Our SiC chip factory is located in Suzhou, and our self-developed electric motor factory is in the Li Auto Parts Industrial Park near our Changzhou factory. The self-developed electric motors used in the L-series models are also produced in this facility. The upcoming pure electric vehicle factory is also in Changzhou, and we are fully prepared for mass production this year."
Previously, Li Auto's founder and CEO, Li Xiang, revealed that the company plans to launch a new pure electric SUV in the first half of 2025 to serve more family users. According to Li Auto's product roadmap, by 2025, the company will introduce five extended-range models, one super flagship model (MEGA), and five pure electric models.
