On June 17, HARMAN International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, announced the acquisition of assets from Cipia, a global leader in driver and occupant monitoring systems (DMS and OMS) for the automotive industry. The acquisition represents a strategic expansion of HARMAN's cockpit experience portfolio and reinforces the successful collaboration between the two companies in next-generation sensing technologies. It also underscores HARMAN's commitment to enhancing vehicle safety, intelligence, and occupant well-being through customized innovation.

Cipia's edge-based computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies are already embedded in HARMAN's Ready Care product-the industry's first in-cabin monitoring system capable of measuring both driver visual and cognitive load in real time. By more deeply integrating Cipia's capabilities into its product lineup, HARMAN aims to accelerate the development and deployment of intelligent sensing features across its automotive offerings, delivering a more personalized, safer, and responsive experience for automakers and their customers.
Huibert Verhoeven, Senior Vice President of HARMAN's Automotive Smart Cockpit strategic business unit, stated:
"Continuously enhancing the in-vehicle experience demands bold and focused innovation. Integrating Cipia into the HARMAN ecosystem strengthens our ability to provide scalable smart sensing solutions to global automakers. Together, we will push the boundaries of the cockpit experience-making it safer, smarter, and more deeply personalized."
Yehuda Holtzman, CEO of Cipia, commented:
"Joining HARMAN marks a transformational milestone for Cipia. HARMAN's global scale and leadership in automotive technology make it an ideal partner for our solutions. Together, we will accelerate our shared vision of smarter mobility-where vehicles understand and respond to the needs of everyone inside."
This acquisition enables HARMAN to rapidly advance its cockpit sensing roadmap, expand market reach, and deliver meaningful differentiation in the competitive automotive landscape-solidifying its leadership at the intersection of AI, neuroscience, and automotive user experience. Cipia's existing aftermarket business will continue to operate independently.
